State police are still probing a fatal shooting this weekend by an East Haven police officer in New Haven’s Wooster area.

Before being shot, the victim had pulled a gun on an East Haven police officer and refused several times to set it down, according to State Police spokesman Lt. Paul Vance.

Brian Batten, 32, ended up in New Haven Saturday night after fleeing from East Haven cops when they showed up at his home to respond to a domestic violence incident at 8:45 p.m., according to Vance. A car chase ended on Williams Street, quiet residential street off Grand Avenue.

When East Haven cops and a State Trooper approached him, Batten pulled out a gun and pointed it at the East Haven cop, Vance said. The suspect “refused the verbal commands from the officers to drop the weapon.” The East Haven cop, identified as Sgt. John Miller, an 11-year veteran of the force, then shot Batten.

Batten was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Yale-New Haven Hospital. An investigation is ongoing by the State Police Western District Major Crime Squad.

This is yet another example of the dangerous work conducted by our men and woman of blue. I support you guy's and marvel at the dangers you face day in and day out.

This yahoo refuses to stop and points a gun at a cop and I bet there someone who's going to say that he was misunderstood and the cop's were excessive. It's a sad commentary on our society.
