Just A Scare

Nothing came of Thursday’s gang initiation threat, reports Police Officer Joe Avery. Here’s what did happen, according to police:

Shelter Bomb Scare

A young man called police at 7:30 a.m. to say a bomb was going to go off at the Columbus House shelter. The area was searched, but no bomb was found.

Car Strippers Stopped

Someone called police at 10:10 a.m. A stolen car was being stripped in the rear yard of 330 Greenwich Ave., the caller said. Officers arrested two people after a short foot chase. The vehicle was given back to its owner.

Half-Mugged

A victim made a late report of a street robbery Tuesday. The victim was robbed at gunpoint at Dixwell and Willis at 7:30 p.m. The mugger, a 5 foot 8 inch man who apparently has a jaw injury, “speaks out of the left side of his face,” the victim said.

Ominous Theft

A man told police he and his girlfriend had just broken up and she had moved out. When he came home to his Sheldon Terrace apartment at 8:45 p.m. Thursday, he found the place had been burglarized. Stolen was a loaded Smith and Wesson gun.

An officer working on extra duty at the Van Dome at 12:44 a.m. Friday found a 9mm handgun in a vehicle in front of 145 Hamilton Street. A 26-year-old man was arrested for possession of the gun, as well as some drugs.

And the narcotics task force arrested a man at 235 Poplar St. on warrants, including possession with intent to sell.
