candra%20stewart.jpgA fund-raising campaign has begun to help the family left behind when a 29-year-old woman died in a fire at Westville Manor last week.

The Christian Commission has organized a 5 p.m. rally for Tuesday on Wayfarer Street to support and plan help for the three children left behind after last week’s fire.
The fire destroyed their home; they had no insurance. And their mother, 29-year-old Candra LaDavis Stewart (pictured), has died from injuries sustained in the blaze. She leaves behind a 9 year-old daughter, and two boys, ages 1 and 3. Click here to read her obituary.

Hillhouse High girls’ basketball coach Catrina Hawley-Stewart is taking care of the children. Meanwhile, according to the Board of Ed:

“The family needs immediate help paying for the burial… They also need help with housing and other issues. Hillhouse set up the Candra Stewart Fund, c/o Dorothea Stewart, ConnexCredit Union, 227 Church St., New Haven, CT, 06510 (203) 821-3300.”
