Relief Sought For Flood Victims
by Melissa Bailey | March 10, 2008 7:07 PM | Permalink | Comments (1)
As Ecuador struggles to recover from deadly floods that forced thousands of people from their homes, a group in Connecticut is organizing some relief.
The New-Haven based Ecuadorian Community “Virgen del Cisne” is running a donation drive for victims of the flood after Ecuador’s president declared a state of emergency. The February floods, the worst in eight years, destroyed crops, and spread disease. It left 16 people dead and tens of thousands hungry and displaced from their homes.
Donations collected in New Haven will be pooled with those collected across the state and distributed through a coordinated effort run by the Ecuadorian consulate.
Suggested donations include: multivitamins, clothes, non-perishable food, blankets, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, first aid kits, bug repellent, antibiotics, ibuprofen and acetaminophen.
Donations can be dropped off at St. Rose of Lima’s Church, 115 Blatchley Ave. in New Haven, at these times:
March 8, 15, 22 and 29 (Saturdays), 2 p.m. - 6 p.m.
March 9, 23, and 30 (Sundays), 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
