Three people were mugged by force over the past day, according to police:

Thumb Slashed

A man told police he left the Falcon Club, at 242 Wallace St., to “get some air” at 2:50 a.m. Tuesday. He told police he was walking by the train tracks when three men approached him with a knife. One hit him with a candle-stick holder. Another tried to stab him, but the victim blocked the blow with his hand. His right thumb was seriously injured. The robbers took cash and fled.

Edgewood Mugging

A man told police he was robbed at gunpoint shortly after leaving the corner store at Chapel and Ellsworth Avenue Monday night. He was walking up to 434 Edgewood Ave. at 7:14 p.m. when five men approached, showed a gun, took his wallet, and fled.

Student Escapes Unscathed

And a Yale graduate student was mugged downtown early Tuesday morning, reports Yale Police Chief James A. Perrotti:

“A graduate student was the victim of a robbery, on York Street near Crown Street at approximately 5:15 a.m. on Tuesday, March 4. He was walking and talking on his cell phone when a man approached him and demanded he end his call. The student hung up the phone, and the man threatened to harm him if he did not hand over his money.

“The student gave the man a small amount of money and was then asked to hand over his cell phone. The student was not sure if the man was armed or not. The man is described as being average height and build, clean-shaven wearing a navy blue hooded sweatshirt with a dark coat over it. Fortunately, the student was not hurt during the incident.”

Anyone having information about this incident should call the Yale Police at 432-4400.
