Police arrested a 52-year-old man who they said tried to break into an East Rock home just past midnight Friday morning. Here’s the police department’s written account:
“Officers Benedetto and Harttnet were working a special detail to
address the rise in residential and motor vehicle burglaries. While
patrolling in the area of Lawrence Street officers noticed a suspicious
person peering into a vehicle in the driveway of 299 Lawrence Street.
Officers stopped the subject and discovered numerous burglary tools in
his possession.”
The suspect was charged with possession of burglary tools and criminal trespass 3rd degree.
Police also report a robbery of a cabbie at 5:49 a.m. at Hobart and Whalley Avenue. A Metro Cab driver told police he was robbed in the area of 119 Blake Street by five males. Three of them had masks on and all five had guns, according to the victim. Subjects all got into an unknown vehicle and fled in an unknown direction.

Thank you! Something must be done about the rise of petty and property crimes in East Rock! If we have another summer full of crimes and vagrants walking the streets, residents will fight back or move out
