A fourth-year Yale medical student who was hit by a car on South Frontage Road this weekend has died. And police have identified a second victim in a weekend triple-shooting.
Mila Rainof, 27, was pronounced dead at 9:23 a.m. Sunday, 24 hours after being struck by a small sports car at a busy intersection of York Street and South Frontage Road.
Police have not determined who was at fault in the accident, which happened at 9:45 a.m. Saturday. The driver has been interviewed and the accident reconstruction team is probing the crash, city spokeswoman Jessica Mayorga said.
One Survives Triple Shooting
Police have identified the second person who died in a triple-shooting this weekend. Justin Davis, 24, and William Burruss, 31, both city residents, died of gunshot wounds.
The shoot-out happened at 3:45 a.m. Saturday outside 143 County St. in the Dixwell area. Police were in the area at the time, and responded to a report of gunshots. They found the two victims above, suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were sent to separate hospitals by ambulance.
A short time later, police found a third victim, 22-year-old Christopher Duncan, at an area hospital. Duncan survived had surgery and his condition has been upgraded from “critical” to “fair,” Mayorga said.
No one has been arrested in the incident. “We’ve received some decent leads and detectives are working on this diligently, non-stop since Saturday,” Mayorga said.
Also this weekend, according to police:
A man was stabbed in the left hip in an assault by six men at 2:57 p.m. at Lloyd and Saltonstall in Fair Haven.
A witness reported seeing a group of teens on bikes shoot off a gun. A group of 10-15 male teenagers, wearing black and white shirts, were riding mountain bicycles past 452 Orchard St. at 4:35 p.m. Saturday when a single shot was fired, the witness told police.
City Point Shootout
On City Point at 4:07 p.m. Sunday, one caller reported seeing two groups of people shooting at each other. Cops found 16 bullet casings and one live round at Portsea and Dewitt Streets. No victims were located.
And a “large variety of cigarettes” were stolen in a burglary at Visels Pharmacy at 714 Dixwell Ave. at 4 a.m. Monday.
