Watch Out, CNN

Whether you are a news junkie or a news abstainer, you should check out Al Jazeera if you want to know how world news is covered.
Riz Khan gave a New Haven audience a peek into the world of Al Jazeera itself.
In the near future more folks worldwide will be tuning into the Qatar-based cable-news channel and website world wide than into the BBC or CNN, in the same way Google snuck up and supplanted industry giants.
Riz Khan is part of that transition, having moved from CNN to host a program on the English-language version of Al-Jazeera.
Khan came to town as a Poynter fellow to deliver the Gary G. Fryer Memorial Lecture on the media. (Fryer is Yale’s late spokesman.) Click on the play arrow at the top of this story to watch extensive highlights of Khan’s lecture, which took place Monday at the British Art Center.
