Amber Alert Worked

So said Lt. Sydney Collier, after an allegedly kidnapped 5-year-old boy returned to his mother’s arms.
Police put out the Amber Alert Wednesday morning after receiving a report that a 22-year-old man had broken into his girlfriend’s house Tuesday night, beaten her up, and taken off with their son.
The man apparently heard about the alert, contacted the boy’s aunt (the mother’s sister), and turned the boy over to her, Collier said at a City Hall press conference Wednesday afternoon.
“Once the aunt had the child, she called us,” said Collier, who heads the police department’s family services division.
Police took the boy to the hospital, where he was checked on and deemed in good condition.
The mother, however, was injured and remained in the hospital Wednesday afternoon. The boy was there with her, Collier said.
The man called the cops. “He wanted to turn himself . He wanted to get his story out,” Collier said.
He got the chance as he arrived outside police headquarters shortly before 7:30 a.m. A Channel 3 news crew was there. In a remarkable video, the man defends himself as officers handcuff him and then take him inside, where he was charged with kidnapping, burglary, risk of injury and assault in the second degree.
“I break my back to try to take care of my son and everything, and I did not rob the house. I did not break in or anything like that. Everything that she’s saying is a lie,” Acosta told the TV crew. He offered parting words on camera to his son: “Son, I love you Isaiah. I will never hurt you… Daddy’s gonna get through this, and we’re gonna be together.”

I recieved the Amber Alert as a cell phone text message early that morning. The system really works. Go online to wirelessamberalerts.org and sign up for a free service that alerts you to Amber Alerts in your area and sends the info directly to your cell phone. In the future if more people are involved and aware hopefully more children will be returned safely.
