An Early Endorsement

IMG_7474.JPGNo sooner did word get out that a primary is brewing in the 93rd General Assembly District, than the first endorsement came in.

The endorsement comes from Beaver Hill Alderman Moti Sandman (pictured). He announced he’s backing State Rep. Toni Walker, who’s facing a challenge by Alderwoman Jackie James.

Said Sandman:

IMG_0102.jpg“I would like to take this opportunity to wholly & enthusiastically endorse our current State Rep. Toni Walker (pictured).

“Toni has treated me fairly & honestly even when she could have done otherwise.

“She has been one of the City’s strongest allies in Hartford in this budget mess. She looks out for the concerns and needs of the neighborhood, from everything from the Whalley Avenue Jail problem to stopping SCSU from putting a 550 car garage at the intersection of the Ella T. Grasso Blvd & Crescent Street.

“I believe that Toni is an asset to the District, the City & State. She is the right person for the job and is dedicated to it.

“I have worked with her and look forward to continuing working with her to make the City a better place to live, work & play.”

This is why Sandman is one of my favorite Aldermen. He always has the courage to state his convictions.

If you have never been to any aldermanic meetings to see Sandman in action it is a real treat. He is a true political genius.

East shore guy or Sandman echo.
You missed the entire point, the article is about Toni walker's work as state legislator, not about sandman's credentials as a supporter of Walker.
If you want to praise Sandman fine, put I think you should look more carefully at his performance on the finance committee and his 100% votes for tax increases year after year since he has been in office.

actually, this piece, which is so short it could only charitably be called an article, is about neither sandman nor walker. it is pretty much a verbatim quote of sandman's praise of toni walker's record, and not much more.

also, your point that the alderman has voted repeatedly to increase taxes says absolutely nothing about whether or not he is a political genius, nor does it address his integrity. so you basically fail at shooting down east shore guy, after calling him "sandman echo," which i would imagine was intended to insult both the alderman and the commenter. way to go, buddy.

finally, while you aren't technically wrong in this regard, the phrase "years and years" usually doesn't refer to people who have only been around for a handful of years. i don't remember off the top of my head when alderman sandman was elected, but i believe it was in the last 2, 2 and a half years or so, in which case "years and years" seems like an odd and misleading choice of words.

I don't know why I'm continuing this thread about Sandman, but for the record - Sandman is still in his first full-term as an Alderman. He, Lemar and Sturgis-Pascale all came in together via special election about a year and a half ago and won their first terms last fall. THe three of them are still "freshman" in political terms - but each of them has acquired signifigant power in their short tenures, which makes it seem like they have been around a while.
