Immigrant Victory at Outback

After four months of weekly picketing by a support network, immigrant workers who charged sexual harassment against their supervisor at an Outback Steakhouse have won a settlement.
One woman was fired after complaining about her treatment and two other workers quit after they claimed they were also harassed. Most of the kitchen workers at the restaurant are immigrants. The workers sought help from Unidad Latina en Accion, New Haven’s immigrant rights group. Almost every Friday night at 7 p.m. from December to March, a small or large group gathered on the sidewalk bordering Washington Avenue, several hundred feet in front of the restaurant, which was on the far side of a parking lot. (Click here for a video and story of an early protest.)
The picket gained support from the Greater New Haven Central Labor Council, women’s groups, and concerned individuals, demanding justice for the workers. Finally, attorneys from the chain’s national headquarters in Florida flew up to meet with the former workers and members of the community. Unidad leader Fatima Rojas (pictured on the left, with her daughter, Amber, and fellow ULA member Megan Fountain) says as a result of these negotiations, the kitchen supervisor was fired.
“We as a group we are satisfied,” she said, “and the workers are satisfied, because this is something unusual, that big corporations sit down at the table and talk with the community. We are so happy; we have so many allies in this struggle, because by ourselves it could not be possible.”
Neither side would comment in any detail on the settlement. Rojas did say the workers would not be returning to the restaurant. Outback vice-president Joe Kadow said only that his company did not admit liability and prides itself on its “very good employee relations.”

Forgive my ignorance, but how is this story an immigrant victory? If this story is true, and I am in no way, shape or form saying it is, is this not a victory over workplace sexual harassment? Are you claiming "immigrants" were singled out for harassment due to their "immigrant" status? Can this be proven if "Most of the kitchen workers at the restaurant are immigrants"?
If the NHI is so determined to welcome "immigrants" why do you go out of your way to describe people as "immigrants" whenever possible? Is the title "Victory at Outback" not descriptive enough? How is their "Victory" tied to their "immigrant" status? Why use the work "immigrant" in the first paragraph at all. Does being an "immigrant" bring more validity to their claim than if a non-"immigrant" made the same charge? If your ultimate desire is to make daily life easier for "immigrants" in society then perhaps The NHI should reexamine whether describing someone as an "immigrant" at every turn hurts or helps your cause.

hey ed! do you really think that undocumented worker are not particularly vulnerable to all sorts of exploitation (including sexual)?
if you were a sexual predator, and I am in no way, shape or form saying you are, wouldn't you pick on someone you knew wasn't ever going to go to the cops?
this is not rocket-science.

"Genius"
hey ed! do you really think that undocumented worker are not particularly vulnerable to all sorts of exploitation (including sexual)?
What I think is irrelevant, I could think the moon is made of green cheese but that does not make it true. I would like to see proof supporting the insinuation of these workers being targeted because they were immigrants. If they were not targeted due to being immigrants then this story is about sexual harassment.
Who said these people were undocumented workers? The NHI describes them as "immigrants" which has nothing to do with someone being documented or undocumented. Calm down, relax yourself and actually read the articles.
if you were a sexual predator, and I am in no way, shape or form saying you are, wouldn't you pick on someone you knew wasn't ever going to go to the cops?
First of all, since I am not a sexual predator I have no idea what one would do. I will let you fantasize about such things
Secondly sexual harassment, in many cases , is a civil matter. So if you did go to the cops because your boss was making you feel "uncomfortable" or reducing your hours or making unwelcome advances there is nothing the police could do anyway.
this is not rocket-science.
You are correct. And I did not claim it was rocket science. For someone with the confidence to name yourself "Genius" you certainly do not seem to comprehend the simple fact not every "immigrant" is an undocumented worker. Nor did you seem to realize in neither article did the NHI describe any of the 3 people as "undocumented workers". Are you making the racist assumption that these people are undocumented workers because they are immigrants? Perhaps you were too busy reading the works of Wernher Von Braun to pay attention to such trivial details? You also don't seem to know the difference between criminal and civil actions when pertaining to the law.

if they were undocumented they should not be hired...i"m not saying they were not harrased sexually or not.no woman ask for that..but outback is wrong for hiring them if not leagally documented.
