Teen Shot Near County Street

A 17-year-old took a bullet to the back in the second shooting in under three weeks near the Goffe Street Park.
The juvenile was shot three times, in the back and leg, around 4 p.m. Monday in the area of the park, according to Chief Administrative Officer Rob Smuts. The victim contacted someone on nearby County Street who called police.
The incident came on the heels of a gruesome triple-shooting on April 19 in which two men died in a hail of bullets.
Newhallville Alderwoman Katrina Jones, who represents the district where both shootings took place, got news of the incident inside City Hall Monday night.
“I’m very upset,” said Jones. “That is an area where a lot of kids congregate.” The park lies across the street from Hillhouse High School.
Jones said after the triple-shooting in April, she noticed a pair of sneakers hanging on the wire above the shooting site. The shoes weren’t there before the shooting, she said. They were blue, which she took to be a sign of the Crips.
Echoing ministers’ calls a couple weeks earlier, Jones called for an end to the “no-snitch” mentality that lets shooters get away.
“I don’t know if it’s a turf war going on, but I’m hoping the police can get someone to come forward,” Jones said. “We need help from the community to say we’re not going to stand for this anymore.”

One would think an Alderwoman would be the last person to engage in fanning the flames of hysteria but I guess that is asking too much.
