Any answer is conjecture at this point. But there is no doubt that through her books, and a lecture she gave Saturday at an Association of Yale Alumni event in town, Amy Chua is provoking serious introspection as to where we are in the long arc of historical analysis.

Chua’s talk was entitled, The Rise and Fall of Hyperpowers: Tolerance, Intolerance and Lessons for America.”

Chua, a Yale law professor, is the author of World on Fire: How Exporting Free Market Democracy Breeds Ethnic Hatred and Global Instability, and Day of Empire: How Hyperpowers Rise to Global Dominance — And Why They Fall.
