Accused Cop Pleads Not Guilty

Anthony Maio, the city cop charged with groping two female students while on-duty at a downtown club in April, made his first appearance in New Haven Superior Court Wednesday.

Maio was arrested on June 4 on two charges each of fourth-degree sexual assault and unlawful restraint, in relation to an incident at BAR restaurant at 254 Crown St. Click here for an article detailing the allegations.

Wednesday morning, Maio sat hand-in-hand with a woman in a white suit and waited for his turn to be arraigned before Judge Richard Damiani.

Maio did not speak as he stood before the judge with his attorney, Tim Pothin. He entered a plea of not guilty. He is due to reappear in court for a pre-trial hearing on July 9 at 9 a.m.
