Man Caught Stealing City Tree Grates

A 49-year-old man from Shelton Avenue was caught stealing 100-pound steel grates that surround the city trees in the area of 400 Winchester Ave. (Science Park), according to police. Police say they found him with a sledgehammer inside his truck and two grates in the back of the truck. When cops caught up to him at about 12:51 a.m. Wednesday, he told them he needed some money from the scrap yard. He was charged with larceny in the fourth degree.

A 25-year-old man from West Haven took a bullet to the abdomen in a shooting Tuesday night. Officers responded to the area of 11 Earl St. in Westville at 11:42 p.m. on report of five gunshots. Meanwhile, the victim was located at the Hospital of St. Raphael. The victim was listed in critical condition and was taken immediately to the Operating Room.

An 18-year-old boy was shot in a neighbor’s driveway on Fair Haven’s Atwater Street at 12:05 a.m. Wednesday. He told police two unknown men with guns approached him and tried to rob him. The suspects fled on foot. The boy was shot once in his left hip area.
