Rotaries & City Hall Outlaws

City Hall will fire employees for talking to the press — but not for violating its rights. Also: “round” traffic-calming. Click above for the latest opinionated v-log news summary. Comment.

Paul,
I can't hear you in the second half of this v-log.

Paul,
Poor sound quality on this v-log. We cannot determine when one story ends and the other begins and what is the content of each. Sounds like a very windy day!

Imagine: a city hall administration dedicated to openess with the media and the public; and one where employees were rewarded for competence and not asked to adhere to gag rules.
Hopefully we can make it happen someday.
Keep up the good work.

How has one hit and run become TWO hit and runs?
Stick to the facts, your agenda is showing.

Our town: There have been far more than two hit and runs causing fatalities in the past year or so. Paul did not give a time frame.
According to the NHPD, there are about 1,500-2,000 hit and runs every year in New Haven.
If you think that the state of traffic isn't hurting New Haven's economy, you are deluding yourself. Urgent action is needed immediately to correct this situation. Bring out the concrete barriers, bollards and speed bumps before even more people are killed.

Brison I agree city hall administration dedicated to openness is what we need. How did you pay for the mailing of your birthday party invites that went out to ward 10? Tax dollars? How much did that cost us? What have you done for your area?? Did you keep your election promises? Did you get them anything they wanted, have you even tried? I remember the video of your debate. What have your done for those people or is your presents thier reward? Or are you consumed with being on every committee and board for the notoriety that you don't have the time? Free up your time and take care of your ward.

There is the rub. Who is there around to unify the opposition to DeStefano, Paul? To vote out the trash, there has to be an option to vote in.
We haven't heard from either Elser or Ralph in a long time and I know of no Democratic challenger.

I spoke to a traffic engineer last year, who said that New Haven policy was to not synchronize traffic signals to have smooth traffic flow at 25 mph. He said that drivers and pedestrians would become inattentive with synchronized signals and it would cause more accidents. So making drivers stop at every light is supposed to be a good thing.
I think this is outrageous. Unsynchronized signals only cause frustrated drivers to speed to make the next light or ignore red lights. It's a colossal waste of gasoline and time and is more hazardous to drivers and pedestrians. It needn't take 45 minutes and a quarter tank of gas to get across New Haven on surface streets.
Rather than lulling drivers into a false sense of security, synchronized signals would make happy, courteous drivers and safe, predictable pedestrian crossings. Sensible traffic planning would go a long way to curing New Haven's traffic ills.
