Police Seek Info On Saturday Murder

The city issued the following press release Saturday:

(NEW HAVEN)— New Haven Police responded to the area of Chatham St @ Atwater St on
the report of gunfire and a person shot at 02:36 hours on Saturday August 2nd, 2008.
Upon arrival, officers located a 21-year-old white male of Hispanic descent, lying
in the roadway, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. This subject was
transported to YNHH for his injuries, where he was pronounced dead a short time
later. At the present time, no suspect information is available and a motive for
this crime has not been determined.

Presently the location has been secured by police as detectives from the crime scene unit process the scene for evidence of this crime.The name of the victim has been
withheld pending family notification. Any further information will be released at a
later time from the police department, through the spokesperson from the Mayor’s
Office.

Police are requesting that anyone one who may have witnessed this incident, or has
information about the incident , please call the Detective Bureau @ 946-6304 or they
can place an anonymous tip via text message through the text a tip hotline by
texting #720 to CRIMES(274637).
