Serial Burglar Nabbed

Police have arrested a woman they say returned to a habit of burglary after being released from court custody in March.
The woman, a 37-year-old of 160 Spring St. in the Hill, was arrested Monday following a lengthy investigation by city detectives, police spokesman Officer Joe Avery announced Wednesday afternoon. Police say she is responsible for breaking into at least 12 homes across the city.
Police caught up with the suspect on Monday on Legion Avenue. She was in possession of items that were taken in two burglaries that happened earlier that day in the Hill, Avery said.
In the statement, Avery made a point to note that the woman had already been arrested for a January armed burglary, but was released back into the community only to repeat the crime again.
During the Jan. 13 incident, the woman allegedly slashed a man in the cheek with a pocket knife when he discovered her inside his home at 1334 State St. one morning. The woman arrested in March for that crime. She was charged with five felony offenses, for robbery, burglary and first-degree assault.
Back in March, she posted a $100,000 bond and was released from custody. An order for her re-arrest was issued on May 12, according to court records. Re-arrest orders were also issued for four other pending cases against her, which included charges of larceny, criminal trespass and a burglary in West Haven.
Officer Renee Forte was credited with carrying out an extensive investigation and obtaining arrest warrants for 12 burglaries across five policing districts in the city. The burglaries generally took place between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m., Avery said. The suspect allegedly got into the homes from front and rear doors, garages and windows.
The suspect was arraigned in New Haven Superior Court this morning. Police warned that the case against her is not closed: “This investigation will continue and more arrest warrants for other burglaries will be forthcoming,” Avery wrote.

Thank you, Officer Forte, for your great work! Can details be provided about where this woman operated? Was she responsible for the burglaries and attempted burglaries in the Chatham Square neighborhood? As someone who was the victim of an attempted burglary, it would be a great relief to know that the person who tried to break into my home is off the street.
