Sada_Jacobson_0001.jpgSix Yalies, including Bronze Fencing winner Sada Jacobson (pictured), will compete in the Beijing Olympics in three sports: fencing, rowing and sailing. The Opening Ceremonies begin tonight.

Five are alums and one is currently enrolled in Yale College. The five alums and one student represent three nations and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

They are: Thomas Barrows ‘10, representing the U.S Virgin Islands in Sailing-Laser, Ashley Brzozwicz ‘04 of Canada, Women’s Rowing-Eight, Rachel Jeffers ‘07 - of the USA, an alternate in Women’s Rowing, Sada Jacobson ‘06 - of the USA, Fencing-Sabre, Stuart McNay ‘05, of the USA, Sailing-470 and Josh West ‘98 of Great Britain, Rowing-Eight.

(Read a profile of Jacobson from a past Yale Alumni Magazine issue, here.)

Tom Beckett, Yale’s Director of Athletics, said: “We wish these athletes success and a wonderful international experience as they add to Yale’s illustrious Olympic history. Alumni and students from the University have won 39 medals since 1956, a total equaled in the Ivy League only by Harvard. Sada Jacobson is a returning medalist for the USA, having won a Bronze Medal in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.”

The Ivy League has a website devoted to Ivy League athletes competing in the Olympics, and the site features articles about Yale athletes who will be at the Games.
