A cabbie picked up a fare in Milford, only to be end up fleeing a drug scene with a bullet in his car.

The cabbie, from Hamden, picked up a man before 6 p.m. Tuesday in Milford. Here’s what he told police happened, according to police spokesman Officer Joe Avery:

The passenger directed him to the Farnam Court housing projects at Franklin Street and Grand Avenue. The passenger got out of the taxi. He met another man. The two appeared to engage in a drug deal, according to the cabbie. Before he knew it, bullets flew.

The man fired two shots at the cabbie’s passenger. The passenger jumped back in the taxi. The cabbie took him to the Mobil Gas station on Whalley Avenue. The cabbie was left with a bullet hole in his car and a projectile on the rear floor inside the car.

Man Charged In GPS Theft

Officer Evarts got a call at 3:41 a.m. Wednesday of a suspicious man prowling around in another man’s Honda in Westville. When Evarts got to the scene at 167 McKinley, he found a man “tangled up in the bushes nearby.” The man had a large wine bottle in his hand. He refused to come out. When he did emerge, he had a GPS navigation system on him. The GPS unit had been stolen out of someone else’s car, police said. The item’s owner was tracked down.

“You from around here?”

And a 32-year-old Hamden man told police he was mugged at gunpoint in Fair Haven early Wednesday. The visitor told cops he was outside 202 Hamilton St. at 5:41 a.m. when two men came up to him.

“Where are you from, are you from around here?” one man asked. Then he reached into the victim’s pocket and robbed him of his keys. The perps sped off in his rented Ford Expedition, which was later found on Wallace Street. No arrests were made.
