The cops tracked down a car being driven by the man suspected of shooting his girlfriend in the knee in Fair Haven last Thursday night after an argument.
The arrest took place Friday. Officer Mike Illingworth saw the car around Elm and Church Streets. He and Officer Elvin Rivera arrested the 22-year-old man, the shooting victim’s ex-boyfriend. The charges: Assault in the First Degree, Unlawful Discharge, Carrying a Pistol without a Permit, Criminal Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon, Weapon in a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Use of a Firearm, Reckless Endangerment in the 1st., Possession of Narcotics and Possession of Narcotics with Intent to Sell. The man “is currently being held on $500,000 bond as well as a Do Not Release placed upon him by Parole,” according to a city press release. “The victim from the shooting is still hospitalized for her injury.”
Meanwhile, around Dixwell Avenue and Henry Street, the cops spotted and arrested a man “fitting the description” of an armed robber who had just committed a nearby theft. The 19-year-old man was found with “multiple plastic zip-loc baggies, similar to the type used to package narcotics, unopened packages of Philly Blunt cigars, which are commonly used to smoke marijuana, and a Philly blunt wrapper, which were already emptied.”
Then detectives went to his house, nearby on Henry Street. They said they found a “4- foot tall marijuana plant growing in a garden” in the back yard. They smelled pot inside. They got a warrant, searched the premises, and seized “25 lbs. of compressed bricks of marijuana, 2 marijuana plants, .380 AMT loaded pistol, 12 gauge shotgun with sawed off barrel, $5,425.00, scales, packaging material, 1997 Lexus LS400 and
a 1998 Toyota 4 runner,” according to a press release.
The police department’s Firearms Task force, run by Lt. Ken Blanchard, set up surveillance at Shepard and Read streets in Newhallville after hearing that some young men were selling drugs. They ended up arresting a 23-year-old man from right over the Hamden line on “several narcotic-related offenses” for allegedly running the operation.
The cops also arrested three people on Elliot Street after finding five bags of crack cocaine prepackaged for sale.

Guns, too -- even better.
That must have been one hell of a productive "4- foot tall marijuana plant growing in a garden"!

The man is a criminal for assaulting his girlfriend.
But the cops are criminals for stealing his marijuana. There's nothing wrong with marijuana- only the dopes that support these criminal mercantilism laws.
