Two Shot At Farnam

Two men were hit by bullets in an apparent shoot-out at the Farnam Courts housing projects early Friday, according to police spokesman Officer Joe Avery.
Cops responded to a report of gunshots at about 1:20 a.m. They found a 35-year-old from Dyer Street in front of 406 Hamilton St. He was suffering from two gunshot wounds, in the thigh and abdomen. A second man, age 21 from Quinnipiac Avenue, was found near 173 Franklin St. He had a gunshot wound to the leg. Both were treated at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
In other news, according to Avery:
Woman Shot By Ex-Boyfriend
A woman told police that her ex-boyfriend shot her in Fair Haven Thursday night. She was sitting in a car with her ex-boyfriend at 9:51 p.m. in front of 107 Monroe St. When she refused to get out of his car so he could leave, he shot her in the knee. She got out of the car. He sped away down Monroe towards Clay Street.
East Rock Mugging
Yale Police Chief James Perrotti reports a daylight mugging in East Rock:
“I write to let you know that three Graduate Students were the victims of a robbery on Humphrey Street near Whitney Ave. at 12:58 p.m. on Friday, September 26th. The students were approached by a male who was armed.”
And the state narcotics task force carried out two search warrants for sale of crack cocaine Thursday:
At 40 and 43 Shelter St., two arrests were made; at 144 Rowe St., apartments C2 and C3, three people were arrested, all on drug charges.

Chief Perrotti, God Bless him, tells Yalies to walk in groups and take the shuttle. This happened to a GROUP of three Yalies, in the MIDDLE of the day, near the damned corner of Humphrey and Whitney. What the hell were these guys supposed to do?? It could have been ANY of us. Let's get real about the extent of street crime in New Haven these days. It's bad!

That was my reaction to this report, too. And Humphrey at Whitney is a major shuttle stop - following the safety recommendations to a T couldn't have prevented this robbery.

really? you're going to talk about the kids that were mugged in this thread. really? boo hoo, they lost some money. 3 people got shot, lets worry about how to get guns off the street.

Norton Street,
The East Rock mugger also had a gun on the street. It's lucky he didn't use it. The safety of Yale students is no more important than the safety of people in Fair Haven or Farnam Courts -- but it's not less important, either.

a shooting is more important than a mugging.
it wasnt luck, it was location, intentions and victims
a gun that isnt used is nothing more than a silver metal hand
safety is a bigger issue in farnam courts than it is on humphrey and whitney
it surprised me that the first two posters would comment on a little old mugging rather than the 2 cases of extreme violence that occurred in east new haven, it seemed that they felt the safety of yale students was more important, which i have a problem with. i dont see where i implied that some people were more important than others.
