A 17-year-old boy remains in critical condition after he was shot in the head Thursday evening, police said.

The boy was shot at about 8:12 p.m. in Newhallville at the corner of Dixwell Avenue and Willis Street, according to police spokesman Officer Joe Avery.

One bullet hit him in the back of the head and lodged in his skull. A second bullet grazed his eye. Four to five bullets were fired, a witness told police. Four to five men fled south on Dixwell, the witness said.

Downtown Purse Snatching

A woman was mugged Thursday evening on a downtown street, Avery said. She was walking at about 9 p.m. in front of 86 Crown St., near Orange Street, when a man came up to her. He snatched her purse, which contained credit cards, and fled on Orange Street.
