Car Set Ablaze

A red 2000 Honda Civic went up into flames outside a home in the Annex area. The car was found at 2:39 a.m. Friday in front of 286 Fairmont Ave., according to police spokesman Officer Joe Avery.

Police believe someone stole the car from East Haven, stripped it, and set it on fire. The fire department extinguished the blaze and is investigating its cause. The burnt shell of a car was towed away by Lombard Motors.

Otherwise, police report a relatively quiet, rainy day Thursday, with one unarmed street robbery, one report of gun shots, seven burglaries and a car theft in the Hill.

That sentence made me laugh. Oh, you know, just a report of gun shots... a street robbery... nothing too bad! It has some truth to it, though, and it's sad to have to say it -- this was a good day in terms of how much crime wasn't going on in New Haven. Maybe criminals dissolve when water hits them? I think we all wish that was true... :)

What about the car that was driven into Edgewood Park off Ella Grasso Blvd. and was set on fire? Police towed it away on Sat. morning (Nov. 8) about 9AM.
