Wait — Wasn’t Obama In Indiana?

waver.JPGDemocratic poll worker Nathan Karnes enlisted a heavy-duty sidekick to attract voters on the sidewalk next to the 29th Ward polling place at the Metropolitan Business High School on Blake Street Tuesday.

Karnes said his partner, in truth a cardboard cutout of Sen. Barack Obama waving, generated a lot of interest in the hour or so Karnes was standing there late Tuesday afternoon. People stopped to take pictures with “the candidate.” Many blew their horns and at least one reporter stopped to take his picture.

“Little kids were smiling, women stopped and people were having a good time,” he said.

Karnes said he decided to make his stand, so to speak, despite his feeling that Obama would have no problem taking New Haven or Connecticut.

“It was fun. I’m having a good time,” he said.

This last visibility effort was fun, eliciting lots of smiles and waves and honks as I fired up the growing expectant jubilance. the cardboard cutout was with me since May and had made appearances from Killingworth to BAR to Scranton. Last night someone decided they could take what did not belong to them, and left Playwright with what I have been calling "Skinny
Obama". So, I hope he had a wild night, but I am sad that the cutout is gone, stolen by thoughtless selfish persons unknown.
