Beef Thief Sought

friend.jpgPolice are asking public help in tracking down a man they believe has embezzled $237,000 from the Standard Beef company in New Haven.

Philip Friend, 49, (pictured) of 222 Peaceable St. in Ridgefield is wanted on first-degree larceny and 33 counts of forgery for the alleged embezzlement,

Friend worked at Standard Beef as a consultant for about six months, Mayorga said.

She described the subject as 6 feet tall, 200 lbs, brown eyes and brown hair.

He was last seen driving a red 2004 Chevy Avalanche pickup truck, with plates CT 419-UPH. “He also has access to a grey ‘07 BMW 525xi with 4 doors bearing CT. Registration 968-UPS and a blue Volkswagen Eos convertible bearing CT Registration 613-XND.”

Anyone with info on his whereabouts is asked to contact New Haven Police at 946-6316.

In other news, police spokesman Officer Joe Avery reports three robberies Monday evening.

At 7:27 p.m., a man reported being mugged by two masked men at the corner of Davenport Avenue and Stevens Street in the Hill.

Ten minutes later and three blocks away, another person reported being mugged, too. This victim was stabbed at by a metal piece of fencing before giving up a wallet. The victim could see a gun in one of the men’s pockets.

And over in Fair Haven, at 227 Ferry St., the Jay-Nez Grocery was robbed at 8:29 p.m. Wielding a sawed-off shotgun, they stole a small amount of money and fled.

Phil Friend is a completely honest, hardworking businessman who is being used as a scapegoat by the owner of this company who has bankrupted it and who is trying to pin the blame on anybody he can.Its a shame that this paper intimates guilt when none is present.
