Dominos Denied

The Board of Zoning Appeals denied a request from Grand Avenue dominos club for a non-profit liquor license and joint-use parking on Tuesday night.

Roberto Perez, head of the Caitano Social Club, planned to host intercity dominos tournaments and sought permission to serve alcohol at the events. His request before the BZA last month met with strident opposition from Grand Avenue neighbors, who worried that a liquor-serving establishment would diminish the quality of life on their block.

Felipe Pastore, the City Hall attorney advisor to the BZA, said after Tuesday night’s meeting that the request was denied because of confusion over the ownership of the parking lot that the social club proposed to use. This was the same reason that the City Plan Commission had voted against the social club’s request last month.
