I've noticed this turn of events. Where you have people you have business. And grand street is hopping these days. And the new school and parents dropping off kids increases foot traffic. Family oriented. Cars can't drive fast because the place is congested. They need to put in a rondo at Grand and C-Town shopping Center Street That would really make it nice. Those two corners could be beautifed and it would really shine.

A real nice thing for New Haven. It's not all doom and gloom around here!

good observations stptia

grand avenue is successful because of its design, relatively narrow avenue, with one lane in each direction, occasional turn lanes and parking on either side, some whalley avenue should look into. the west side of grand is very dense with lots of buildings having retail on the ground floor with apartments above. there arent large parking lots in front of the buildings like on whalley avenue. just look at the proposed spot for the new laundromat next to the walgreens on whalley, theres a parking lot in front of it, no wonder the only person actively trying to get it is a laundromat!
grand ave isnt perfect though, there are still some parking lots that need to be hidden and developed but it is really one of my favorite streets in the city.

Holiday Greetings to all... wanted to add a little to these two wonderful stories about GAVA for those of you who don't know about GAVA's history - when GAVA was formed almost ten years ago Grand Avenue was a place were people were shot, and were litter was strewn about. Today Grand Avenue is a very different place. The GAVA leadership worked with many other community groups, the City and the State to shut down a known drug den, to implement a professional cleaning program, to start a farmers market, to improve facades, to implement a variety of beautification strategies, to create communication and organization... among many other things. GAVA's hard work continues to bear fruit. Thank you to all who help GAVA in so many ways. Gracias,Gracie, Merci.
