Gunshots erupted outside the downtown Foot Locker after one someone spit on someone else’s car. The incident happened at 5:01 p.m. Monday, according to police.

Two people in a green VW Passat drove past the shoe store at 832 Chapel St., police said. Three people stood outside the store on the sidewalk. One of them spit on the car, witnesses told police.

A man in the car responded to the insult by pulling out a gun. He fired two shots from inside the car, police said. The bullets didn’t hit anyone. They hit the store, shattering the front window. The Passat sped away towards State Street.

In other news: police responded to a report of a domestic dispute on Monroe Street midday Monday and ended up seizing two pounds of marijuana and $13,000 in cash.
