Marsalis Blows In

Wynton Marsalis entertained and educated a packed house for over an hour Thursday evening at the United Church on the Green.
Marsalis played pieces by many jazz greats including Loius Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis and Jon Coltrane. He finished with a virtuoso improvisation of his own. The event was sponsored by The Chubb Fellowship, Timothy Dwight College and Yale University.
Chris Volpe is a photographer and journalist based in New Haven. You can see more pictures of Wynton Marsalis and other examples of his work on his website.

Sounds like a good show that I missed.
I gathered from the Register ad that Marsalis was going to talk about trumpeting rather than actually play.
Seemed like those TV shows where the now=boring Carol Burnett Show crew sit around bragging about how funny they used to be, but do not bother to show the old clips of shows when they were still truly funny.

Chris,
I attended this event. It was very informative and collaborative. Great turnout, church was full.
I am doing a course project for my grad degree on Jazz at Lincoln Center. As you know Wynton Marsalis is the Artistic Director there.
Yours in Jazz,
Ed
