group%20photo%20april%202009.jpgThe monthly events in front of City Hall, sponsored by Elm City Cycling and Bru CafĂ©, have attracted up to 150 cyclists during peak commuting months. This year’s kick-off event, which began at 7:30 a.m.Friday with the temperature in the high 30s, brought out 50 cyclists from as far away as Madison and Milford (some of whom do a bike-train-bike commute) by the event’s end at 9:30 a.m. Organizers (including this reporter) were pleased at the turnout.

Besides the tire-changing demo, Mike Morand, chair of the board of the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce, brought greetings from the business community, some of whose members are looking for ways to provide more amenities and incentives to cyclists.

The monthly breakfasts serve as one venue for broadening and energizing the city’s bicycle and pedestrian advocacy community.
