Rock To Rock

A hardy crew of cyclists, including Buzz and Karen Climis, kicked off an inaugural Rock to Rock ride with a climb to East Rock’s summit Saturday.
Bikers stopped for a photo opp at the breezy overlook.
And a peek at the signs of spring below.
They whizzed down the back roads of East Rock Park to meet the rest of a crowd of 200 cyclists and start a journey from East to West Rock. The ride was the brainchild of Joel Tolman (pictured with megaphone). The event was billed as a “day-long celebration of Earth Day, and of New Haven’s rich environmental and cultural resources”: visit the website to learn more.
At about 11:30 a.m., the riders set out for the West, making stops in neighborhoods along the way. To share more photos of the event, add a link in a comment below or email us here.

This was an AWESOME event. Thanks to everyone who organized it! We had a wonderful time. Who knew New Haven was so incredibly bike-able? (with a police escort enforcing the intersections, anyway - it gave a taste of how civilized the New Haven roads could be, given half a chance).
I kind of wished we'd had a truck full of spare bikes (and helmets) so that the people we saw along the way could have up and joined in if they wanted to. The biking vibe was truly infectious. Two wheels good!
Thanks again to the organizers and sponsors. It was lovely.

PS those free T-shirts were cute - thanks! - but who's up for a Frock to Frock contingent next year? Let's take it up a notch and give those cute Copenhagenites a run for their money...

I agree, East Rockette! New Haven could be one of the world's most bikeable cities if the city would just set aside a few bike boulevards, like Berkeley, CA does.

This was a great ride. Thanks to Joel Tolman for pushing this through, & the City for supporting it--and Lt Witkowski for doing a great job of keeping the ride safe & accident free!
