Bootfinder Booted

DSCN9377.JPGLombard Motors towing company, which most recently drew heat for failing to pay taxes on a scofflaw-hunting tow truck, has been kicked off of the city’s Plate Hunter program.

“Lombard Towing is suspended from the Municipal Towers List effective April 10, 2009 at 0001 hours,” announced a letter dated Thursday, signed by Kenneth Gillespie, assistant chief of police.

“This suspension is the result of an investigation as well as violations of the Municipal Tow Policy,” the letter reads.

Through mayoral spokeswoman Jessica Mayorga, Gillespie declined to say what prompted the suspension. She said the company is under criminal investigation.

The letter came about a month and a half after the company got caught owing $1,064.73 in back taxes on the very tow truck it sent out to haul away scofflaw taxpayers. After the Independent reported the offense, the company’s owner, Anthony Monaco (pictured above), rushed into City Hall and made the payment.

Friday wasn’t the first time Monaco was booted from the city’s towing program. Last April, the Independent reported that the owner was double-dipping by opening a sham “new” towing company next door to his original one in order to get extra city business.

His business on Gando Drive had two side-by-side doors with signs for two “companies”: Lombard Motors and Anthony’s Hi-Tech.

At the time, Monaco claimed he was not double-dipping. Click here for a story and a video showing his response.

The city eventually removed one of Monaco’s companies from the city rotation and suspended him from towing for one week.

If he takes issue with the suspension, Monaco may request a hearing before the chief of police.

Reached by phone Sunday and Monday, Monaco said he was too busy to talk.

You can bad mouth my boys at Lombard all you want but you'll never take away that their tow trucks are the sweetest looking rides and have the most bad-ass, ill aesthetic on the streets of New Haven

As the independent has it out for this company They neglect to dig for facts! The fact of this investigation stems from a clerical era on the part of a disgrutled employee. Once the city is done with its investigation(formality) it will be back to business.

Jazione,
I'm feeling you. The dude even has green and blue flames on his FRONT DOOR. Check the photo.

Hmmm... Suspended? I sure saw one of those (yes, Jaz- it did look cool) flame-covered trucks out this morning dragging away tax booty from the quiet streets of East Rock.

Last fall their were two of Lombards tow trucks I personally witnessed parking cars on a dead end street off of Quinnipiac Avenue. Yep, they were using the street to park their tows on. When I reported to the non emergency police line, all of a sudden two trucks showed up and towed all of the trucks they had parked on Hemingway Place off the street. I'm pretty certain that parking cars on dead end streets and not in their lots is probably not allowable?

He's back on the list and his staff is trying to do the right thing. He's trying to do what he's told to do and that's towing unpaid tax cars and cars that are in violation with the DMV. Such as ; driving around with a suspended license or an unreg/uninsured vehicle . You know who you are lol . As for the commit that Anonoagain made about parking cars on Quinnipiac ave , hmm Lombard Motors also works for AAA , they could of been dropping off a members vehicle. Lombard's has been in heat a few times but how about all the other towers ? Do you think they do the right thing ? My wifes vehicle was towed and she owed over $1,000 in storage , Mr.Monaco made a deal with me for $200 . I think that was awesome. I was able to get my lights turned back on . Thanks Lombard's.
