Silverman Steps Down

After six years in office as a Westville alderwoman, Ina Silverman has announced she won’t seek reelection in November.
Silverman, first elected in 2003, is finishing her third two-year term as Ward 25 alderwoman. She made the announcement Tuesday afternoon in an email newsletter to constituents.
While she’s stepping down from office, Silverman is staying active in ward politics by helping a new candidate run for her seat. Gregory Dildine, of 227 McKinley Ave., filed papers on Friday announcing his candidacy for Ward 25 alderman; he listed Silverman as his treasurer. (Dildine and Silverman couldn’t be reached for comment Tuesday afternoon.)
Barbara Segaloff, a Democratic party co-chair in Ward 25, said Dildine is the only person she’s heard of who’s expressed interest in running for the seat. Her ward committee plans to hold a meeting in June for the purpose of endorsing a candidate.
Susie Voigt, Democratic Town Committee chairwoman, said the city was lucky to have Silverman serve for three terms, when the alderwoman initially planned to serve for only two.
“We’re really going to miss her,” said Voigt. “She represented her ward very faithfully.”

Uh, huh. Very faithfully represented the Mayor's agenda in her ward... Keep your eye on this soon-to-be-former alderperson, betcha there is a job or office she has her eye on. Are you listening Johnny? Does Pat Dillon have a potential challenger in the offing?

Greg is a good choice for alderman. Westville is lucky to have someone stepping forward who is truly interested in representing the people of this ward.
