Solar Youth “Ransacked”

Staff at Solar Youth showed up to their offices Friday morning to find the place had been “ransacked.”
“Luckily, very little was stolen,” wrote Joanne Sciulli, director of the environmentally themed youth development group, in an email to the Independent. She sent in the picture at left.
Burglars stole one laptop computer and a radio from the offices, at 53 Wayfarer St. in West Rock, said Sciulli. She suspects the thieves were kids ages 11 to 13.
One of the intruders cut his or her hand on a broken window on the way in, Sciulli said.
“We were pleased to see that they took care of the wound with an alcohol swab and band-aid from one of our first aid kits.” She said the incident, while disturbing, “deepens our commitment to provide positive youth development opportunities” to New Haveners.
“We welcome contributions from the community to help replace the computer, and improve our security,” she wrote. For more info, visit Solar Youth’s website.
Driver Robbed
A 24-year-old man from Wallingford reported being robbed by a man he gave a ride to at bar closing time early Friday, according to police.
He told police he picked up a female friend and a man from Shelton Avenue in his car and they all went out for the night. At the end of the night, as the driver was dropping the man off at 1:09 a.m., the passenger pulled out a gun and robbed him of $150 and a cell phone.

My condolences to Solar Youth! It's so sad to see when people break into/vandalise the very places that are in the community to help them. I hope that the perpetrators will be found and will give back the materials, and that help will be given quickly to help make Solar Youth safer.
