Boy At Fault In Crash

The driver of a car that struck an 11-year-old boy in Fair Haven this week was not at fault, police have concluded.

Police had originally reported that the driver blew a red light and hit the boy, throwing him up on the hood of the car Tuesday evening at Grand and Clinton Avenues.

Friday, police revised the story after further investigation.

Witnesses at the scene said the driver had a green light, said police spokesman Officer Joe Avery. The boy, who was riding a bicycle, had a red light. Police believe the boy blew the light and zoomed in front of the car.

The boy was given a warning for “reckless use of the highway” and failure to obey a traffic signal, Avery said.

The city PR folks and New Haven Independent are doing a great job lately communicating with the public on these issues. A lot of us appreciate it.
