The city narcotics squad intercepted a package of $15,000 in cocaine that was mailed to New Haven from Puerto Rico, according to police.

Detectives were informed of the package by a postal inspector. After a trained dog sniffed something suspicious, police obtained a warrant and opened it up. They found 125 grams of cocaine inside. Cops then executed a “controlled postal delivery” to the location it was addressed to, then conducted a search and seizure of the home on Wednesday at noon. They arrested a 32-year-old man who lives there.

Cop Appears In Court

The city’s police spokesman appeared in New Haven Superior Court Wednesday on charges of breach of peace and interfering with an emergency call, stemming from a domestic incident on June 1.

Officer Joseph Avery Sr., who’s 52, was released on a promise to appear after his arrest by Madison police. At a court appearance Thursday, his case was continued until July 16.

This is one of the finest officers the city has. One of the most community oriented ones. And educator to the young and old. This charge seems to be no different than any other, we are getting divorced charge. Don't believe it for a second. And all the know and love him are there for him!
