Drowning Victim ID’d

Police have identified the man whose body was found in the New Haven Harbor Saturday afternoon.

Josef Chery, age 56, of 317 West Spring St. in West Haven, apparently drowned in the harbor waters sometime on Saturday morning.

The U.S. Coast Guard found his body at 12:17 p.m. Saturday off of 120 Woodward Ave., police said. The man was unresponsive at the time. Police believe he suffered sudden death in the water.

Chery was first reported missing by his daughter at 3:04 a.m. Saturday, police said. New Haven cops are investigating.

Teen Shot In Back

A 15-year-old boy was shot in the lower back in Fair Haven at 7:17 p.m. Saturday. The boy told police he was walking on Clinton Avenue near Lombard Street when he got shot, police said. His injuries are considered non-life threatening.

Shooting Suspect Sought

Police are seeking the public’s help in tracking down a suspect in a May shooting on West Ivy Street in Newhallville. Detective Craig Dixon has obtained a warrant for the arrest of Jermaine Reddick, age 26.

reddick.jpgReddick (pictured) is wanted on charges of: “Assault in the First Degree, Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Carrying a Pistol without a Permit, Reckless Endangerment First Degree and Risk of Injury to a Minor.” Reddick also has an outstanding warrant for “Burglary First Degree, Assault Third Degree and Breach of Peace.”

Anyone with information on Reddick’s whereabouts is encouraged to call police at 946-6316 or 946-6304.

Home Invasion Probed

Residents of a Judith Terrace home were pistol-whipped during a home invasion at 2:19 a.m. on Saturday, police said. A victim told police that two 20-year-old men forced their way into the apartment bearing a rifle. They stole a pocketbook and $130 in cash, and hit multiple residents with a pistol.
