Hit-And-Run Hunt Resumes

Cops Wednesday morning turned loose a Mercedes Benz they found in Waterbury and continued searching for offending car and driver that killed a baby in a recent hit-and-run crash.
Police seized the Mercedes in Waterbury Sunday because it matched the description of the offending vehicle that smashed into a car at Division and Mansfield Streets June 6, killing 17-month-old Montez Stanley Jr. and paralyzing his mother.
Cops towed the car to the police garage and inspected it. Wednesday, they ruled it out as the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run, said police spokesman Officer Joe Avery. The car owner was cooperative and is not a suspect in the crash.
That leaves cops back on the trail of the offending car, a dark blue 1998 to 2003 Mercedes Benz CLK-320 coupe (like the one pictured) with front-end damage.
Police are asking auto parts dealers to come forward and report any recent orders for Mercedes Benz parts or after-market parts for Mercedes Benz.
Detectives are looking for “a front license plate bracket, front bumper cover, front hood grill, hood, hood emblem, front headlights, front signal light lenses and front fenders, all of which would be used to repair a vehicle with body damage similar to the Mercedes Benz involved in this accident.”
Anyone with any info is encouraged to call the cops at 946-6316 or 946-6304.

Call out the state troopers and FBI! How many of these cars can there be within 500 miles of here?

Seems like it should be easy enough to get a list from the DMV and then have local cops visit every owner. I have no idea how many there would be total, but I'm sure there aren't that many in any given town.

The car they're looking for is probably in some body shop in New Jersey right now.
