Mom Grazed By Bullet

A 23-year-old mother was grazed by a bullet in her shoulder during a shooting in Newhallville Friday night. Three to four shots were fired at Shelton Avenue and Read Street at 8:52 p.m., police said. The woman’s six-month-old son was nearby. Contrary to previous reports, police said the woman was not holding her baby when she was shot: the baby was across the street, according to police spokesman Officer Joe Avery.

Driver Pulled From SUV After Crash

A driver had to be extricated from an SUV after blowing a red light and colliding with a tractor trailer at Hamilton Street/ Ives Place Friday night, police said. The crash took place at 11:14 p.m. Friday. The tractor trailer driver escaped without injury. Safety officials pulled the driver out of the Pontiac Aztek SUV. The driver and another three people in the car were all sent to area hospitals; all were reported in stable condition.

Man Stabbed In Mugging

A man was walking near Lloyd and Exchange Streets in Fair Haven at 2:17 a.m. Saturday when a man rolled up on a bicycle, police said.

“Give me your money,” said the man on the bike. The victim was stabbed eight to nine times in the back. He was sent to the hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Bullets Fly At Farnam Courts

A man escaped with a bullet in his car after a dispute at the Farnam Courts projects in Fair Haven early Saturday. The victim told police he picked up a friend on Grand Avenue and gave him a ride to the projects at 139 Franklin St. at 4 a.m. When he got there, his car was “rushed” by three unknown men. A few words were exchanged, and then one of the men opened fire on the car, police said. The victim sped away to safety, with a bullet hole left in the rear left passenger door.
