Mory’s Plan OK’d

The Board of Zoning Appeals Tuesday night gave the private Yale club the green light to expand and reopen.

In a unanimous vote, the BZA granted zoning approval for an expansion of Mory’s, the venerable private club for Yalies, located at 306 York St.

Mory’s closed last year, a victim of the economy and changing times. Last month, Mory’s leadership came before the BZA, seeking approval for plans to expand the club and reopen. The club intends to install a bar and extend its hours, in the hopes of attracting a younger demographic and creating a more viable business model.

The board gave its unanimous approval of the plan at its monthly meeting Tuesday without any discussion.

Last month, Mory’s management said that a green light from the BZA would help the club to raise greenbacks from club supporters. The expansion plans are not yet fully funded.

If all goes as planned, Mory’s will reopen in the Fall.

Couple of humble suggestions for Mory's
1. Better food.
2. P.O.S. (point of service) sales.
3. Open your doors to everyone.
In 2009, bogus nostalgia is no longer a viable business model.
"The Whiffenpoof Song" was first published 100 years ago. Time to modernize, people.
