they are cheap and easy to acquire anon, and awfully hard to use in an inner-city environment--be more worried about the smaller handgun or the scoped rifle.

The police didn't explain, in this story, about why they went after this man. So, the weapons they are showing may have NOTHING to do with what was going on. Let's wait and see what comes of this!

Come out of your Liberal mindset, stop drinking the Kool-Aid, and read John Lott's book, "More Guns, Less Crime".

To Officer Abate, I do hope for a speedy recovery, with no long-lasting problems.

Why would I?
If I settled for the bargain-basement in statistical study that is "More Guns, Less Crime", I'd still disagree with the book--because I'd pull the number of guns vs crime in the 3rd world & compare & contrast that with civilized nations that have less guns & less crime.

You can use a statistic to prove anything. and you can assume I'm whatever you want. But it's not a great way to get me to read your propaganda or give you a shot--err, chance.

You should probably get a second wheel for your bike. You have become so wobbly, it has affected your brain. The only way anyone can make a REAL decision, is by studying two opposing points. Only then can you understand the point. So don't read the book! Liberal ignorance is bliss. A "Pollyanna" kind of town to live in.
Oh, and your "civilized" country? Is England, Canada, or Australia included here? If they are, you should look up their stats now! Now that they have instilled some of the strictest "Gun Control" measures on their people. Oh, how crime has decreased in those countries{LOL, it HAS increased!} ! And all of those Kool-Aid drinking Liberals, they don't know what to say about the increase.
DUHH, maybe it's because the honest people CANNOT protect themselves anymore! Criminals can ONLY "work" when they think they have the "upper hand". You take away the peoples RIGHT to protect themselves, and they are left to the "mercy" of the criminal!
And another thing. Have you noticed the police cars no longer have the phrase "To Protect and Serve" written on them? Could it be because the courts have ruled that the police are NOT there to protect the "citizen". They are ONLY there for the public in general!
Wake up people! When are we going to stop this madness?

By the way, I would rather have my 1911 in my hand, than your 911 on the phone in my hand! Why? Remember, when seconds count, the police are ONLY minutes away!!

there were 70 homicides in 2008 in Toronto, and 84 in 2007. Toronto's population is 2.5 million.

London had 363 less homicides than New York City with a difference in only 500,000 inhabitants.

In 2008, Hartford had 32 homicides. Almost half the number of Toronto. Hartford's population is about 130,000.

Should I tell you the numbers in Los Angeles or Chicago? How about cities in Brazil or Colombia?

Even if homicides are rising in gun-control countries, as you've said, their levels are still minuscule when compared to countires that take pride in having citizens that are yearning to pull the trigger.

What your info does not show, is how the person was killed! You see, there really IS a difference! Especially if you want to use it FOR gun control {i.e. take them away!}.
Let's see. First off, let's toss out the number of suicides. Then we throw out the "gang on gang" killings. Now, we will remove from your data "accidental" killings.
You cannot stop a person from killing themselves, especially if they have an underlying psych problem. Likewise, even with out firearms, "G on G" violence WILL NOT stop! They will fight for "control" no matter what. The accidental killings do happen, sadly and often tragically, but there is a reason they are called accidental! Because they were.
NOW look at the murder rate, based on reality!
Even LEO's will state 30,000 people killed by guns last year! Suicides alone count for 1/3 or around 10,000! So, the "psych" patient did not use drugs, a car {either by "accident" or CO poisoning} or hang them-self! Now take away the "G on G"/drug wars, and what IS left?
The murder rate by Firearms, you will find, is NOT as high as the "Main Stream Media" will have you believe!

NOW, everyone, please go and reference crime rates in states like FL or TX. Check the numbers, per capita from 1988 and earlier, to 1998 and then, 2008. The years listed go from before both states enacted a "Concealed Carry Permit" system! Contrary to "Main Stream Media" predictions, the crime rate actually went DOWN! Oh, by the way, their "predictions" of "wild west shootouts"/"road rage", etc have NOT come true!
Also, the last info I could get, from before the 2008 stats come out, was that TX had ONLY 2 permit holders have their licenses taken away. One of the revocations was due to a "technicality"!
Now that number {percentage} runs about the same, NATIONWIDE, for ALL lawful gun owners { INCLUDING LEO"s}! IF it was a "much higher" number, I'll bet EVEN you would be surprised to see those stats in the news! Really, think about it. IF the "Main Stream Media" did investigate and find out how many "card carrying" members of the NRA, were involved in criminal acts/using firearms, don't you think that would be "sensationalized" by them? Because it is NOT mentioned AT ALL, I'll guess the greatest number of criminals using firearms, are NOT "lawful" owners, exercising their 2nd Amendment rights! They are "just" breaking another law!!

Now I do not have an "updated" list, but here in CT, there were, at last count, at least 3, YES 3, LEO's getting full pay, for working from behind a desk! Why are the "driving a desk"? Because they have a "restraining order" against them. Even an LEO cannot have a firearm, after being served with a restraining order. What can an LEO do without his/her gun? Sit behind a desk! The reason for this point, you ask? What number {percentage} is that to ALL LEO's in CT? Well I'll be! The percentages keep coming up close to the same!!
Is my point a ruse? Or does there seem to be a bit of truth in it?

Also, remember this, there are only THREE types of people who don't think the "average" citizen should own a firearm!
1. The Government that does NOT trust it's citizens,
2. The Liberals, who follow "blindly" their Government's propaganda,
3. CRIMINALS!!!
In ALL of the above cases, it makes their job/lives THAT much harder to do/live!!
