2 Charged For Pipe Bomb

Police have arrested two men they say are responsible for packing explosives into a car in Fair Haven Tuesday night.
At about 11 p.m. Tuesday, city cops got an anonymous call tipping them off to two suspicious men in a silver Mercedes-Benz. The car was parked on Clinton Avenue, near the intersection with Grand Avenue in Fair Haven, police said.
When police approached the car, they found two men inside with an artillery of illegal weapons, including several guns, a pipe bomb and ammunition, police said.
The bomb squad arrived and detonated the bomb.
Two men, age 27 and 38 of New Haven and Branford respectively, were charged with “manufacture of bombs, shotgun/rifle/muzzle loader in vehicle, illegal possession of explosive and storage/transportation/use of explosive agents.” The New Haven man was also charged with criminal possession of a firearm.
Both suspects were held on a $500,000 bond, police said.

Why was the area blocked off for 4 block but no one was evacuated from the area.
(The bomb squad arrived and detonated the bomb.) or were they disarmed by unscrewing the cap and emptying them out. I love how NHPD makes if sound so much more then what is really is.

Any idea what these guys had planned to do with their pipe bombs?

They didn't overeact, it's a pipe bomb, the fear isn't that it has a strong enough charge to take down a building ( that is why there was no evacuations ), it is the flying sharpnel that the pipe bomb may contain.
I can tell you don't have any military training, because that is basic training 101. Leave the public safety for the pro's they were doing there jobs to keep us citizens safe. Good job NHPD

I like right across the street from where that car with the bomb was. You're wrong. The Police knocked on my door and informed of the danger and asked me to evacuate the area. They were very polite and informative regarding the situation. I was very pleased with the response and so were all of my neighbors. Keep up the good work NHPD!

Nice Job NHPD. Excellent response. These guys need to be in jail for a very long time. It is scary to to think there are crazy people driving around our neighorhoods, lying in wait to hurt someone.
