Teen Arrested After Car Chase

It was an “O.J. Simpson” style low-speed chase, according to police.
Here’s what happened, according to police spokesman Officer Joe Avery:
On Tuesday around 3 p.m., police followed a car that had been stolen by a juvenile in Westville. Following a five-minute pursuit, the driver was arrested on Cedar Street, after popping a tire on a curb.
“It was one of those O.J. Simpson car chases,” said Westville’s top cop, Lt. Martin Tchakirides. The driver was driving slowly, he said. “He just would not stop. He was looking for someplace to ditch the car.”
Also Tuesday, police responded to a report of a stabbing at a house on Pine Street at 6 p.m., Avery said. They found a 25-year-old woman suffering from stab wounds to the shoulder, neck, and chin. The woman and a 53-year-old man at the scene were arrested on assault charges.

Low-speed chase my @$%! Maybe the end of it was. I was home at the time - and happened to be outside, in front of my house, as the “chase” passed. That car and the pursuing officers were traveling no less than 60 - 70 MPH on West Rock Avenue flying past Edgewood School just moments before the children were let out. And I’m not the only one to see this - there were at least a half dozen witnesses on my block alone that were horrified. One might also ask the school Crossing Guard if it was low-speed as he was standing in the street as the cars approached. Believe me, I am all for apprehending criminals, and keeping the streets safe, but this was ridiculous and could have been tragic.

I looked at the crime log, and it looks like the incident occurred at 98 Pine Street.

You are absolutely right Qwerty, how dare those cops chase a felon who just stabbed someone!? What were they thinking!? If you had just been stabbed (or your wife/hubby, child, parent), you would completely understand if they just waved at him as he got away! If your child was bleeding profusely, you would absolutely NOT want the person apprehended! I am right with you....uh huh
