glovesIMG_6103.JPG(Updated: 3:31 p.m.) Alfreda Edwards woke up Wednesday morning to the sound of gunshots next door.

When she looked out the window, the Newhallville alderwoman saw cops closing in on the scene of what would become the city’s ninth homicide this year.

Police responded at 3:52 a.m. Wednesday on report of a person shot at 128 Sheffield Ave., police spokesman Officer Joe Avery said. Police found a 20-year-old man in the hallway, suffering from gunshot wounds.

Edwards said she made sure her grandkids were safe, then went outside. She saw medics try to resuscitate the victim on the porch.

He died at the hospital, police said.

Police walked in and out of the house Wednesday afternoon, piecing together clues to the killing.

Neighbors said the victim was visiting a woman who lives on the second floor.

The woman’s mother waited anxiously outside as police investigated.

Edwards said she hopes there is no retaliation.

“We just want peace,” said Edwards. “We already lost one life and we don’t want to lose another.”

What a tragedy that another young person has lost their life due to senseless violence. How sad is it that a neighbor is awakened in the wee hours of the morning due to gun fire. How sickening is it that all Jon Doe thought about was attacking the Police department and stating they play favorites because Alderwoman Edwards lives in the neighborhood.Does and should it matter who the neighbor is when a life is lost and peace and tranquility is shattered by violence ...?? I think not and I would hope Jon Doe would now look back and say I hope the police solve this crime. It should be solved so other neighbors such as myself do not have to explain away yellow crime tape to a six year old child on their way to the school bus. With all the violence and guns who cares who the neighbor is the crime needs to be solved..Due to the insensitivity of your comment you just ought to remain Jon Doe..

You know ppl are very ignorant these time and days and you are absoultley correct. " How do we explain to our children what is going on". How many times before our kids turn the age 15 they have to see this yellow tape or gun shots in the wee hours of the morning. Why is it so hard for them to just take guns off the streets completley. Take them from law inforcements and then maybe we can get them off the streets as well. If no one has hand to firearm then I think our community and world will be a better place. Please New Haven My african americans queens and kings stop the violence, there's more to life than killing each other and making mothers fathers sisters brothers children grandparents all so said. Please community lets come together to get these reckless ppl away.
