Brother Stabbed

After a 17-year-old got in the middle of a fight between his sister and her boyfriend, he ended up with a stab wound, police said.

Here’s what happened, according to police spokesman Officer Joe Avery:

Police responded to a report of a stabbing at 125 Chatham St. at 3:11 on Wednesday afternoon. They found that the 17-year-old victim had already been transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital. The victim’s sister said that her brother had intervened in a dispute between her and her 27-year-old boyfriend. The boyfriend stabbed him in the shoulder, puncturing his left lung, according to police.

The boyfriend fled, but later returned to Chatham Street, where police arrested him. The stabbing victim was listed in stable condition.

In other police news, according to Avery:

There was a fire at 11:20 p.m. at 88 Hazel St. It began in the rear of the house, where seven squatters lived with no electricity or heat. The fire was started by a candle. No one was injured. The seven people were put up in an Econo Lodge motel by the American Red Cross.

Another fire took place at 24 Bond St. at 3:35 a.m. on Thursday. All occupants escaped the two-family home uninjured.

A robbery at Crown and Howe Streets was reported at 1:39 a.m. on Thursday. The victim said that he was approached by two men who asked him for a cigarette and then reached in his pocket, taking $12. The victim immediately reported the crime and the muggers were detained moments later by Officer Duane Biros. The victim was able to ID the muggers in person. They were arrested.

A Good Deed

A reader sent in this photo on Thursday of a police officer helping to push a broken-down car near the Knights of Columbus building downtown.

“Never seen this one before,” the reader wrote. “That was a good deed.”
