Cocaine Supplier Gets 17 Years

A New Jersey man convicted of supplying cocaine to a Newhallville drug ring has been sentenced to 17 years in federal prison.

Genero Marte, aka “G,” age 44, of Blackwood, NJ, was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Bridgeport. A jury found him guilty of one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of crack cocaine.

Marte was caught in a wiretap set up as part of “Operation No Nonsense,” a probe by a task force of federal agents and local police into a drug trafficking circle in the Newhallville neighborhood, according to Tom Carson, spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office. (Click here to read the release.)

The probe began in 2006, when the task force made controlled buys from two local drug dealers nicknamed “Feet” and “Foot,” aka Mauriel Glover and Roshaun Hoggard, Carson said. In Sept. 2007, federal Drug Enforcement Administration agents got permission to wiretap “Feet” and “Foot“‘s phones. The wiretap recorded “hundreds of incriminating drug-related calls.” The calls revealed that Marte would routinely bring cocaine into Connecticut, where “Feet” and “Foot” would cook the powder into crack and sell it to “numerous customers” in Newhallville.

At one point, DEA agents followed “Feet” to the Bronx and watched him pick up a shipment of cocaine from Marte, Carson said.

The three have remained behind bars since their arrests in December 2007, Carson said. Marte was sentenced by Judge Janet C. Hall to 17 years in jail and a fine of $25,000. The other two await sentencing.
