Cops Work “Around The Clock” On Sinergy Stabbing

Police continued to interview witnesses late Sunday in the search for the person who stabbed another clubgoer to death inside a Crown Street bar this weekend.

The stabbings occurred during a fight at Sinergy Lounge, at 201 Crown St., around 1 a.m. Saturday. (The club used to be known as Hammer Jaks.)

A fight broke out downstairs on the dance floor. After it was over, 21-year-old Bambaata Carr of Hamden died from stab wounds.

A second man, who’s 25 and from New Haven, went to the hospital with serious stab wounds.

That man was released Saturday night. He “is doing remarkably better,” according to police Lt. Lisa Dadio, who heads the detective division.

A third man, 24 years old, also reported being injured in the fight; he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Lt. Dadio reported late Sunday afternoon that the police have no suspects yet in the murder.

“We’ve been working the case around the clock and continue to interview people who were present during the altercations,” she said.

“It was horrific,” said one person who was on the scene on Crown Street as police arrived and found one of the stabbing victims on the sidewalk early Saturday.

“The club was overpacked, that was number one. Apparently they had 18 [years old] and up [in the club]. So you could be 18 and get in. They were charging $20 at the door. Because it was such an overflow of people, they had people on the sidewalk waiting to get in. People in and out. It was just packed. Then you had all the other clubs up and running.

“It was people everywhere. Literally it looked like it was a parade. They were trying to get people to disperse from the parade after it was over. All the parking lots were spilling out onto that street as well.”

The victim on the sidewalk told police, according to the person present at the scene, that “it was a big fight inside. They had been fighting for 10 minutes. He heard two or four loud gunshots.”

Chief James Lewis said that police have received calls “a couple of times” on previous occasions that violence might break out at the club. That didn’t happen with the previous calls.

The police ask that anyone with information call them at 203-946-6304.

It was a shooting. Someone might have gotten stabbed but the 21 year old young man who died was shot. He was a great kid, a wonderful father and like a baby brother to me.

Kind of un-cool the way HammerJaks can be shut down, then re-opened under a relative's name.

Here's hoping they get shut down again. And this time permanently.

If they gave two sheets, the club would have had metal detectors. Sadly, this killing was not a surprise.

Can we get a copy editor for Paul Bass up in here?

Yipes: If you'd like to pay one, sure :). Or the NHI could do coverage like the Register or other papers--not as often, and with cheaper reporters. You'd not see as many typos but you'd get less news. (I still spot a typo every other week in the Times)

I had heard it was a shooting as well--why all the conflicting reports?

What,
It’s the same reason the NHI is burying this story on the left and halfway down the page. The first rule of Downtown shootings is never talk about downtown shootings.

its not usually the owners fault... its the people u cant trust at the doors or the promoters they hire. some promoters just let under agers in and singery is 18 plus and 21 to drink. and all the clubs are always packed not just them! it is unforutane that this happened to a young kid, but its not the owners fault. its the people they thuink they cant trust and they cant
