Missing Girl Located

Last seen leaving Common Ground High School on Friday, a missing 13-year-old has been located. She’s been in New York with a friend.

111009_TM_0002.jpgThat’s what Precious Rivera’s parents told Common Ground High School Director Liz Cox (pictured) on Tuesday afternoon. As of 2 p.m., the high school freshman was on her way back home to New Haven, Cox said.

After Precious didn’t came home from the 158-student charter school on Friday, her parents reported her missing and had put up fliers around town. Precious did not exhibit any unusual behavior on Friday, Cox said.

On Monday, the parents went to Common Ground to speak with Cox.

“They were very distraught,” Cox said.

Students at the school were also disturbed by the news. “They’re a little shaky,” Cox said. “This is a small school.”

But then Precious ended up not coming back to New Haven. Her mother told the Register Tuesday that her daughter and her friend had now gone somewhere else.

Abduction?

111009_TM_0003.jpgOn Tuesday afternoon, police were investigating a possible abduction on George Street. Cops received a call that someone had been shoved into a blue Toyota Camry, which was soon located on Orchard Street.

At 1:45 p.m., nearly a dozen police officers and detectives were deployed at the corner of Orchard and Henry Streets, near the recovered vehicle. A tow truck was on its way to bring the vehicle to police headquarters.

“We’re investigating a possible abduction,” said Sgt. Peter Moller, the area’s patrol sergeant. “Somebody witnessed somebody being pushed into a car,” he said.

The call came in around 12:30 p.m., he said. Half an hour later, the car was spotted on Orchard.

111009_TM_0008.jpgPolice hadn’t yet opened the car (pictured), Moller said. He said detectives would take over the investigation after the car was towed back to the station.

Police have been talking to neighbors to see if they witnessed anything, Moller said. So far no information had corroborated the initial report. “It’s unclear whether or not we have an abduction,” he said. “It could have been a prank call.”

State police dogs were called to the scene but found no trace. The investigation continues.

A 10-Day-Old Gunshot Wound

On Tuesday morning, a man walked into the Hospital of St. Raphael with a gunshot wound he received on Oct. 30.

Here’s what happened, according to police spokesman officer Joe Avery:

The victim, a 54-year-old homeless man, said that he was walking near Ferraro’s Market on Grand Avenue on Oct. 30, when he was approached by a man who asked for his wallet. When he refused, the mugger cut him on his right hand and then shot him in the right leg. The man didn’t seek medical treatment until Tuesday.

A car accident at Watson and Bassett streets sent a one-year-old to the hospital, according to Avery. At 4 p.m. on Monday, a car went through a stop sign on Watson Street, at the corner of Bassett Street. The passenger in the car was holding a 1-year-old child, who suffered a concussion. The injury did not appear to be life-threatening.
