Rodriguez DUI Case Continued

Alderman Joey Rodriguez was set to appear Wednesday morning to answer to a drunken driving charge, but the case was delayed until Dec. 7.
Rodriguez, who’s 22, is a first-term alderman in Fair Haven’s Ward 15. He was stopped by police Sunday night after citizen watchdog Alex Marathas reported a drunk driver and pulled him over on Ashmun Street. Rodriguez was charged with driving under the influence and without a license.
Rodriguez was set to be arraigned Wednesday morning along with other alleged motor vehicle offenders in Courtroom B of Superior Court on Elm Street. He didn’t appear.
His attorney, David Kinney of Kinney & Secola on State Street, requested the case be delayed because he couldn’t make the court date on Wednesday, court records show. The case was continued until Dec. 7.
Click here for a Courant story probing an unusual practice in Connecticut Superior Court, whereby some defendants are allowed to “forgo formal arraignment and arrange informal continuations of their cases to avoid waiting in court all day and missing work.”
A drunken driving charge is given when a driver’s blood alcohol content is .08 percent. Rodriguez gave police two urine samples, which a state lab is still processing, a police spokesman said.
First-time DUI offenders face a fine of $500 to $1,000. They face a suspended license for one year, according to state law. They face either up to six months of jail or probation and 100 hours of community service. Most first-time offenders enter rehabilitation programs instead of going to jail.
The fine for driving without a license, for first-time offenders, is between $75 and $90.
The alderman issued a public apology after his arrest. Click on the play arrow to watch.

I honestly think Joey is a good guy & a good alder: I think it's appropriate to "Forgive and forget" and move on, because he does seem sincere and apologetic. With that being said, I don't think City Hall should have orchestrated a press event about this.
Does Obama orchestrate press events the day a senator gets in trouble? Does Rell? No. Even if the intentions are good or honorable, it appears to be a teamist maneuveur, and calls into question the political process of New Haven.
Alders are elected by a neighborhood, not by City Hall. Alders work for a neighborhood, not for City Hall. I think Joey did the right thing by stepping up & apologizing, but the gesture is tainted by the presence of City Hall. There was no need for City Hall to orchestrate the event, so why did they? Is it to try and secure Joey's vote in the future?
These are the questions any thinking person asks themselves after this.

Asfar as City Hall orchestrated a press event,
You have to remeber that politician have there own community with in themself. They look out for there own. and could care less about you or me.

Obama did orchestrate a press events. Rember skip gates and the police officer and the beers at the white house.
Alders are elected by a neighborhood, not by City Hall. Alders work for a neighborhood, not for City Hall. Your are right that alders are elected by a neighborhood, not by City Hall. But when they are elected most of them become part of the political
machine,In turn they do the bidding of the machine
not the people who put them in.
Again this press event was about the protecting one of there own.

An alderman may represent the interests of his or her ward, but that alderman also has a proportional outcome on every city issue that comes to a vote. This isn't a ward issue but a city issue. If the degree of malfeasance is as bad as described in the last NHIndependent article, then the alderman should step down.

I really don't see how driving without a license is such a small penalty. Whats the point in us needing licenses? Was the vehicle insured or even registered? Who gave him the keys to their car to go drive drunk? I can almost see the forgive and forget angle if there wasn't absolutely so much wrong with this situation. The drunkenness, the lack of license, the fact that he tried to drunkenly dangerously outmaneuver Marathas, the fact that he couldn't even bother showing up for his court date like all of his constituents have to... There really needs to be a serious penalty for this type of behavior. And how does it possibly take this long for the urine test to come back? Aren't the majority of DUI offenses pronounced on the spot? Yeah, this isn't suspicious in the least.

Leader and advocated voice for our communities needs, this is the principal roll for alderman. Well this is only according to me.
Who the H*& is me any way?
A mother now and a sister who loosed her older brother(Arturo) when he was 38 years old, when a drunk driver kill him instantly. He just had brought his fist house for his family (8 months before) when this happen.
My brother left a wife with two little girls brooked my mother hart and my other brothers and sisters.
What kind of leaders we are creating for the future (his 22 years old)
According to our other leaders “its ok “it wasn’t that bad!
What possible can be more important, that the safety and good example to our families??
His actions prove more thank any words.
Sad and strongly disappointed that he still under the protection of the “law”, and last but not least he drives all around New Haven, not only around Fair Haven.
